Commencement

Congratulations! If you’re reading this you must be thinking about graduating. And if you are, there are several ‘house keeping’ things you’ll need to do and deadlines you’ll want to be aware of. Below are some important dates and ‘to-dos’ for any graduating senior in step by step order.

Graduates To-Do List

READY... SET... GO!!...
'One Last Application' -- Apply to Graduate (May Graduates)

Applying for graduation should be done in the semester prior to the semester in which you plan to graduate.

  • December Graduation
    Students planning on graduating in December should apply in the prior spring semester.
  • May Graduation
    Students planning on graduating in May should apply in the prior fall semester

Seniors can apply on-line by logging into PeopleSoft and following:

SA Self Service/ Learner Services/ Academics/ Apply for Graduation.

If you plan to transfer-in any of your final credits for graduation, check with Undergraduate Transfer Admissions at (860)486-3137.

'Sounds Like a Plan' -- Plan of Study

Plans of study are due by the 4th week of the semester in which you are graduating and are available from either your advisor or major department. If you have questions you can contact your academic department or the Office of the Registrar at (860) 486-3331.

'Basic Dramatic Black' -- Cap and Gown

Caps and gowns will be available from the UConn Co-op (486-2653). If you are unable to come to the Storrs campus, you may obtain caps and gowns from the Co-op on your campus. Save your receipt from this purchase because it is necessary to obtain tickets. Avoid the last minute rush and purchase your cap and gown from the Co-op as early as possible.

Specific information about dates, availability and ordering are available for December and May graduates at the UConn Commencement site.

'Tell the World' -- Tickets

Undergraduate seniors who have purchased their cap and gown from the UConn Co-op can receive guest tickets. Remember to bring the receipt from your cap and gown purchase to obtain tickets!! For more information you make call the Co-op at 486-2653 or visit the Commencement site.

Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations!!! You have completed your undergraduate career and now it's time for the ceremony. The December Commencement ceremony is held in Gampel Pavilion. May Commencement is held in multiple locations and takes place at 2 separate times; 10:00 am and 3:00pm. For May grads, the time and location of the ceremony you attend is determined by the school to which you belong.

Epilogue--Grade and Credit Deadlines

Final grades and transfer credits must be received in the Office of the Registrar no later than 2 weeks after the commencement ceremony in order for degree to actually be conferred.
