If only I knew then what I know now...
Words from a recent grad.

Name: Cameron MacKay
Class: 2006
School: CLAS; Journalism & Communication Sciences

1. What is a “must do” before you leave campus?

A few ideas...

  • Go to a UConn basketball game
  • Eat Dairy Bar ice cream
  • Visit the Husky Sports Museum in the Alumni Center
  • Walk around Horsebarn Hill
  • Take advantage of the $1 movies at the Student Union

2. What do you wish you knew before entering the “real world”?

I was so concerned that once I left college, my social life was over. What I didn’t realize is that life after college is actually pretty fantastic—even though your best friends may move away, what a great excuse it is to go visit some pretty amazing cities! As opposed to life in college, you have money to go out and enjoy where you’re living. And believe it or not, there are actually some bars that have $1 beer specials! The best part—no more studying, no more papers… When the work day is done, all you have to do is go home and relax.

3. What do you miss most about life at UConn?

Being so close to everything I needed and everyone I wanted to be close to. College is a special time for that and unfortunately, you probably won’t have an opportunity to experience that again.

4. Why are you a member of the Alumni Association?

I’m a life member of the Alumni Association because I wanted to feel forever connected to the university I’m so proud of. But probably the best part is a discount at the Co-Op and keeping connected to many other Huskies.
